North America’s leading media buyers have trusted AAM newspaper audits for a century. Whether your newspaper circulation is paid, nonpaid or verified, AAM has an audit service to meet your needs. All data is compiled into the Media Intelligence Center, the place where advertisers and agencies go to compare and evaluate data for their media plans.
All newspapers must undergo a circulation audit to become an AAM member. AAM provides circulation audits designed for paid or nonpaid newspapers with any size and mix of circulation, such as digital and branded editions.
We offer different services based on your type of newspaper:
Daily or Weekly Paid
For an AAM paid circulation audit, a newspaper's subscriptions and single-copy sales must be individually paid for by the purchaser, not for resale, for at least one cent or more.
Daily or Weekly Paid (Circulation less than 25,000)
AAM offers a custom audit program designed for newspapers with paid circulation under 25,000. The Community Newspaper Audit (CNA) is a cost-efficient program that helps streamline the audit with minimal publisher preparation. Learn more about CNA.
For an AAM nonpaid newspaper audit, the majority of circulation (at least 50 percent) must be delivered to the recipient’s home.
Additional Newspaper Services
AAM’s additional services for newspapers provide vital data beyond the circulation audit.
Audience & Consolidated Media Reporting
Newspapers use the Consolidated Media Report and Audience Snapshot programs to incorporate website traffic, readership, digital editions, social media and more with their circulation audits. Learn more about our digital and audience audit services.
Sunday Opt-In Newspapers
Opt-in newspaper products that deliver advertiser inserts such as Sunday Select are a growth segment for many AAM newspaper members, and an audit is a big opportunity for free opt-in newspaper products to get on the radar of major newspaper buyers. Learn more about opt-in newspaper audits.
Insert Verification Service participants gain visibility and credibility as an FSI distribution source, and ensure maximum return on investment for your advertising partners. Learn more about IVS.
Coupon Distribution Verification
The Coupon Distribution Verification Service helps guard against coupon fraud and misredemption by checking coupon security procedures against best practices. Learn more about CDVS.
Weekly Group Audit Plan
AAM members that sell advertising with other weekly newspapers qualify for a group audit plan. This every-other-year audit option is cost effective and helps advertisers evaluate all group members on one report, while circulation and ZIP codes are broken out for each newspaper.
Certified Audit of Circulations, or CAC, and AAM have joined forces to better serve newspapers and media buyers. As a subsidiary of AAM, CAC members have the opportunity to appear in AAM’s Media Intelligence Center and participate in some of AAM’s additional newspaper services. Learn more.
